For Ailey's Alicia Graf Mack, the pursuit of healthy and wholesome food is more than a lifestyle choice. After discovering three years into her performing career that she suffered from a debilitating autoimmune disorder, she began a series of intensive treatments and eliminated gluten and dairy from her diet. To her amazement, the changes in her diet have had a far greater impact on her recovery and sustained health than the medications.

New York City-based company Juice Generation recently spoke with Alicia about her love of "juicing," a practice by which many Ailey dancers swear. By starting her day with a fusion of kale, spinach, ginger, and açaí, Alicia fuels her body for a full day of intense, non-stop physical activity without having to rely on coffee or tea. "I never dance on an empty stomach," she says. "I don't think I operate on an empty stomach at all. Alicia on an empty stomach is not a good idea."<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/66777484?byline=0&amp;portrait=0" width="400" height="300" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe>
